Experience
After graduating, Dave Murphy gained 14 years' experience in analytical chemistry working for three pharmaceutical companies in the UK. He was ultimately responsible for an analytical group in a multi-national organisation with responsibilities for both drug substance and formulated product testing. In 1993 he jointly established a new Contract Research Organisation (CRO) which provided analytical, formulation and regulatory services principally to the high-tech, biotech sector of the industry. In this capacity, development support was provided for many projects on new chemical entities, involving stages as early as compound selection through to phase II and III clinical trials. In contrast, other projects covered the development of new formulations of established pharmaceutical products.
As co-director and joint owner of the company, Dave had overall responsibility for all the analytical activities. Originally focusing on small molecules, the company also developed into the area of supporting the development of new biological entities. During this time the CRO provided services to more than 100 different pharmaceutical organisations representing a wide range of types and sizes of companies principally from the UK but also from Europe, North America and the rest of the world.
